The Special Assistant to Akwa Ibom State Governor on Entertainment Industry, Mr David Sargeant a.k.a Utang Akwa Ibom has called on all entertainers to ensure that they are registered to vote during the forthcoming general elections.
He made the call in his office as he announced plans for the ‘Entertainers for Udom – Show Your PVC March’ scheduled to hold in Uyo on Saturday, August 18, 2017. Utang said the entertainers are expected to march waving their PVC, reassuring the governor of their unalloyed support in the forthcoming general election come 2019.
The rally, which is a follow up to the membership validation exercise conducted by Utang Akwa Ibom to create a database for the industry, will feature thousands of stakeholders and practitioners, musicians, both gospel and secular, dancers, comedians, actors, directors, entertainment journalists, artiste managers, marketers, show promoters, DJs, pageantry- Kings and Queens.
It is also fixed to reaffirm the participation of the entertainers in the ongoing Voter Registration exercise which was initially to end on August 17, 2018, but the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has extended the deadline for the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise by two weeks.
Mr Sargeant urged Nigerians, precisely entertainers to take advantage of the extension to afford those who have not registered the time to secure the card.
The Akwa Ibom State Entertainment Working Committee, (EWC) had resolved earlier in the month to stage a solidarity rally in honour of Governor Udom in appreciation of the support entertainers in the state have enjoyed under his administration. Governor Emmanuel had confirmed his presence to receive practitioners in the entertainment industry, in view of addressing issues concerning the sector and how it can be repositioned for exploits.
The Entertainers for Udom March will kick off by 7am on Saturday at Ibom Hall, as they march in their numbers through Ibom Plaza to the Governor’s Lodge on Wellington Bassey way.
